On location in Colorado, where he is shooting his current project, Rothman talks about the making of his recent monograph, Redwood Saw, a photographic narrative shot in and around the small coastal town of Crescent City, California, and the northernmost reaches of old-growth redwood forest which border the town. In delineating his photographic process, he traces the effects of the loss of wildness, innocence, and ultimately, freedom and hope that mark our times and reflect the current American moment.
