Ilisa Katz Rissman has been photographing her children, environments and the people around her for years, coming to understand the work as a way of connecting with her family and as a reflection of different emotions over time. "While trying to capture small moments and personal encounters I am not only empathizing with my subjects but also projecting my own feelings onto them," she said. "For example, when I photographed my son after having his appendix removed I was also imprinting the pain I felt as a mother."
